Museum Tour Guides (m/w/d) (Freelance)
Fotografiska’s Museum Art Mediators are highly engaging, personable, and uniquely skilled art guide professionals. This crucial client facing role shapes the multifaceted museum journey we offer to our guests, providing them with a world-class experience. Museum Art Mediators are expected to actively demonstrate their expertise in all our current exhibitions and artist representation. In addition, considering our location is a historical venue, we expect our Art Mediators to be the encyclopedic guides to represent and share the history of our museum and the building we sit in. As an art mediator, you strive to represent Fotografiska Berlin with warmth, professionalism, grace, and an innate understanding of our vision in every interaction.
The position encompasses leading public/private groups large and small, including a wide range of ages. To ensure success as an art mediator/tour guide, you should be an excellent storyteller with a knack for customer service. An outstanding art mediator will perform minor alterations to each itinerary to suit the unique interests of each group. Our Museum Guides are dynamic individuals with a passion for art, culture, theater, and education. Our Museum Mediators build community, bring people together, maintain a positive and dynamic energy in the museum, and embody the role of brand ambassador, encouraging our guests to immerse themselves in our museum experience for the modern world.
Roles & Responsibilities
The position encompasses a wide range of duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Represent the Fotografiska Berlin brand with joy, creativity & integrity!
- Learning tour itineraries, familiarizing guests with the surroundings, and ensuring that the group remains safe at all times.
- Leading museum tours for large and small groups of all ages
- Conducting behind-the-scenes tours of the museum and its facilities for special groups and VIPs
- Familiarize yourself with the layout and history of the Museum in which you will be working.
- Explaining exhibits in detail to guests, providing context and background information to enhance their understanding of the material on display.
- Ensuring the safety of collections
- Greeting tour groups as they arrive
- Informing guests about the itinerary for each tour
- Remaining up to date about current events and changes in the museum and its exhibits
- Creating a memorable and educational experience for guests of all ages
Qualifications
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced people with X years professional work experience who:
- Have backgrounds in art moderation, Education and/or Theatre.
- Are comfortable walking and speaking simultaneously.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards guests and take the initiative to engage guests in conversations.
- Are passionately interested in photography, art, culture and history.
- Enjoy sharing knowledge in both smaller and larger contexts.
- Have strong administrative skills to organize tours from start to finish with a keen eye for detail not only in the museum, but also in “reading” the guests.
- Enthusiastic for and committed to the customer journey and brand experience.
- Have experience working in a service and/or a role where you have had to learn, train/impart information in an interesting and engaging way.
- Thrive on being a service-oriented host.
- Inspired by working in a creative and dynamic environment.
- Are fluent in both German and English.
- Flexible freelance schedule and would make yourself available ‘on call’.
