Fotografiska Berlin is seeking a versatile, hands-on, and service-oriented Janitor to join our team. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our museum operates smoothly by maintaining a safe, functional, and well-kept environment for both visitors and staff.

Working as part of the Operations & Facilities team, you will take care of the day-to-day upkeep of the building, support technical and operational needs, and contribute to the successful execution of exhibitions and events. The role requires a proactive mindset, flexibility, and a strong sense of ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Building Maintenance & Upkeep

• Ensure the general cleanliness, order, and functionality of all public and back-of-house areas

• Conduct regular inspections of the building to identify maintenance needs and safety risks

• Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks to uphold high operational standards

• Work closely in alignment with the Cleaning Team to ensure spaces are consistently well-maintained

Repairs & Technical Support

• Independently perform minor repairs and installations, including:

  • Heating and sanitary systems

  • Basic electrical work

  • Painting and surface repairs

  • Minor carpentry and mechanical tasks

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner

Exhibitions & Events Support

• Collaborate with Operations, AV, and Exhibitions teams to support exhibition installations

• Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, including evenings and weekends when required

• Ensure that all spaces are functional, safe, and ready for exhibitions and events

Vendor & Facility Coordination

• Support the coordination of external contractors and service providers

• Monitor ongoing work and report any issues or follow-ups to the Facilities team

• Ensure that maintenance and repair work is completed to the required standards

Visitor Interaction

• Act as a helpful and approachable presence within the museum

• Support visitors with basic questions or directions when needed

• Contribute to a welcoming and professional environment

Profile

• Experience in a hands-on maintenance, janitorial, or facilities role

• Basic technical knowledge across multiple areas (e.g. electrical, plumbing, carpentry)

• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, reliable approach to work

• Comfortable working in a dynamic, public-facing environment

• Team-oriented with good communication skills

• We are looking for someone to work full-time (40 hours per week) with the ability to adjust to a flexible working schedule, including evenings, weekends and special events
