Fotografiska Berlin is seeking a versatile, hands-on, and service-oriented Janitor to join our team. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our museum operates smoothly by maintaining a safe, functional, and well-kept environment for both visitors and staff.
Working as part of the Operations & Facilities team, you will take care of the day-to-day upkeep of the building, support technical and operational needs, and contribute to the successful execution of exhibitions and events. The role requires a proactive mindset, flexibility, and a strong sense of ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Building Maintenance & Upkeep
Ensure the general cleanliness, order, and functionality of all public and back-of-house areas
Conduct regular inspections of the building to identify maintenance needs and safety risks
Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks to uphold high operational standards
Work closely in alignment with the Cleaning Team to ensure spaces are consistently well-maintained
Repairs & Technical Support
Independently perform minor repairs and installations, including:
Heating and sanitary systems
Basic electrical work
Painting and surface repairs
Minor carpentry and mechanical tasks
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner
Exhibitions & Events Support
Collaborate with Operations, AV, and Exhibitions teams to support exhibition installations
Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, including evenings and weekends when required
Ensure that all spaces are functional, safe, and ready for exhibitions and events
Vendor & Facility Coordination
Support the coordination of external contractors and service providers
Monitor ongoing work and report any issues or follow-ups to the Facilities team
Ensure that maintenance and repair work is completed to the required standards
Visitor Interaction
Act as a helpful and approachable presence within the museum
Support visitors with basic questions or directions when needed
Contribute to a welcoming and professional environment
Profile
Experience in a hands-on maintenance, janitorial, or facilities role
Basic technical knowledge across multiple areas (e.g. electrical, plumbing, carpentry)
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, reliable approach to work
Comfortable working in a dynamic, public-facing environment
Team-oriented with good communication skills
We are looking for someone to work full-time (40 hours per week) with the ability to adjust to a flexible working schedule, including evenings, weekends and special events
